The Indian government does not favour banning futures trading in any commodity, according to Dow Jones.
"The futures market only gives price signals for future periods based on projections about the likely supply and demand situation at those points of time," the junior minister of agriculture, consumer affairs, food and public distribution K.V. Thomas said in the lower house of parliament.
In the past three years the government has banned futures trading in some farm commodities, but later allowed them when spot prices declined.
