INDIA: 2009/10 sugar production up 8.8% through February

India's sugar output until Feb. 28 rose 8.8% on year to 13.6 million metric tonnes, according to Dow Jones.
The country's production in the same period last year was 12.5 million tons, an Indian Sugar Mills Association official, who didn't want to be identified, told Dow Jones Newswires.
Output in the country's largest sugar-producing state, Maharashtra, increased to 4.8 million tonnes till Feb. 28 from 4.2 million tonnes a year earlier. In Uttar Pradesh, the second-largest sugar-producing state, the production of the sweetener rose to 4.1 million tonnes from 3.8 million tonnes.
